Marlen Reusser Dominates Women's Giro d'Italia Opening Stage with Stunning Time Trial Victory
Switzerland's Marlen Reusser triumphs in the opening stage of the Women's Giro d'Italia, securing the coveted maglia rosa with a stellar time trial performance.

Switzerland's Marlen Reusser claimed a spectacular victory in the opening stage of the Women's Giro d'Italia, earning the first maglia rosa jersey of the race. The Movistar Team rider completed the 14.2km individual time trial through Bergamo in an impressive 17 minutes 22 seconds, setting the tone for the competition.
This marks Reusser's first stage win at the Giro in her third appearance at the prestigious Grand Tour. The 33-year-old cyclist, who has previously won two stages at the Tour de France, expressed her excitement and disbelief at her achievement.
Lotte Kopecky of Belgium, last year's runner-up, finished 12 seconds behind in second place, while Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy, the 2024 champion, rounded out the podium in third.
"Ever since the route was announced, I was really excited that the Giro would start with a time trial, and now I'm over the moon," said Reusser. "I still can't quite believe I'll be wearing the maglia rosa - it's truly been an amazing day."
The race continues with Stage 2, the shortest road stage of the event, covering 99km from Clusone to Aprica. Fans are eagerly anticipating more thrilling performances as the competition unfolds.
