Jens Berthel Askou Aims to Revolutionize Motherwell with Dynamic Football Strategy

New Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou aims to bring a dynamic and aggressive style of football to achieve a top six finish in the Scottish Premiership.

New manager Jens Berthel Askou has set his sights on transforming Motherwell's approach to football, emphasizing a dynamic and aggressive style. Taking over from Michael Wimmer, who departed after just 12 games, Askou is determined to make a significant impact in the Scottish Premiership.

Dynamic Football Philosophy

Askou's vision for Motherwell includes a high-intensity, possession-based game. "We want to play some dynamic football with players who want the ball, who want to take the initiative, with big intensity," he explained. He aims to move away from traditional long-ball tactics and instead focus on structured, multi-layered play that challenges opponents positionally.

Building on Past Efforts

Askou acknowledges the efforts of his predecessor, Michael Wimmer, who attempted to modernize the team's style. "He tried to modernize the game a little bit, have more passes in the team," Askou noted. He plans to build on this foundation, aiming for a more detailed and dimensional approach to the game.

Top Six Aspirations

With a clear goal in mind, Askou is optimistic about Motherwell's chances of breaking into the top six. "If we lift things and do things a little bit better over 33 games, I think it's possible to find an extra win and a draw," he said. He emphasizes the importance of sustainability, both financially and in terms of football strategy, to achieve long-term success.

Team Spirit and Development

Askou also stresses the importance of team spirit and positive body language. "I expect to see a team that desperately wants to win and wants to show that positive body language," he stated. He hopes to develop a tempo-filled, attractive style of football that is effective and enjoyable to watch.

Looking Ahead

With a rich history in football management, including roles at FC Copenhagen and Sparta Prague, Askou brings a wealth of experience to Motherwell. He is inspired by the achievements of Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and believes that under his leadership, Motherwell can achieve significant progress. "We need some time to get things in the right direction, but we also have an interesting opportunity here to really form the squad," he concluded.
