Demi Vollering Secures Back-to-Back Vuelta Femenina Titles with Stunning Final Stage Victory

Demi Vollering triumphs in the final stage of the Vuelta Femenina, defending her title with a commanding performance in the Asturian mountains.

Demi Vollering showcased her dominance in women's cycling by winning the final stage of the Vuelta Femenina, successfully defending her title in a thrilling finish. The Dutch rider broke away from her competitors in the last kilometer of stage seven, crossing the finish line solo at the Alto de Cotobello summit in Asturias, Spain.

Heading into the final day, Vollering held a 45-second lead. Her second stage win of the race ensured she claimed her second Vuelta Femenina title by a margin of one minute and one second over Switzerland's Marlen Reusser. Vollering's compatriot and former teammate, Anna van der Breggen, finished third overall, 15 seconds behind Reusser.

Vollering, who moved to FDJ-Suez from SD-Worx this season, expressed her joy after the race: "I am very happy that I could win both mountain stages. My team was so strong again, and we were always in control. I'm really happy about the whole performance with the whole team."

The final stage, a challenging 152km route from La Robla to Cotobello, saw van der Breggen lead for much of the final 10.3km climb in the rain. However, she couldn't match Vollering's explosive attack with 800 meters to go, also falling behind Reusser.

With this victory, Vollering has now won three major tour titles in women's cycling, including the 2023 Tour de France Femmes and her two Vuelta Femenina triumphs. Her second victory of the race also ensured that every individual stage was won by a Dutch rider.
