Michael Dunlop Dominates NW200 with Supersport and Superstock Double Victory

Michael Dunlop clinched a thrilling double victory in the Supersport and Superstock classes at the NW200, marking his first wins at the event since 2016.

Michael Dunlop's Remarkable Double Win at NW200

Michael Dunlop made a triumphant return to the North West 200 (NW200) by securing victories in both the Supersport and Superstock classes on Thursday night. This marked his first wins at the event since 2016, bringing his total career victories at the NW200 to seven.

Supersport Race: A Nail-Biting Finish

Dunlop's first victory of the night came in the Supersport race, where he executed a dramatic overtake on Richard Cooper in the final lap. Crossing the finish line just 0.378 seconds ahead, Dunlop demonstrated his exceptional skill and determination. This win was particularly significant as it was only his second Supersport victory at the NW200, despite his dominance in the middleweight category at the Isle of Man TT, where he holds a record 13 Supersport wins.

Superstock Race: Overcoming Adversity

Later in the evening, Dunlop claimed his second victory of the night in the Superstock race. Despite a challenging start, he surged ahead in the final laps, setting a new lap record at 124.392 mph. This win was a testament to his resilience, especially after suffering a spill during the Superstock qualifying earlier in the day.

Dunlop's Reflections

After the races, Dunlop expressed his joy and relief, stating, "It's nice to win back in Northern Ireland, especially at international level. I got myself into the right place at the right time and thought that it was time to get my finger out." He also acknowledged the physical challenges he faced, saying, "I damaged the shoulder a wee bit and struggled to brake a bit. It's not 100% but I can't complain. I'll keep the head down."
