Katie Ledecky breaks her first world record in seven years, dominating the 800m freestyle at the Tyr Pro Series in Florida.

American swimming legend Katie Ledecky has once again etched her name into the history books by breaking her first world record in seven years. The 28-year-old phenom clocked an astonishing 8:04.12 in the 800m freestyle at the Tyr Pro Series meet in Florida, surpassing her previous record of 8:04.79 set at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
This monumental achievement marks the sixth time Ledecky has set a new world record in the 800m freestyle since she first claimed it from Britain's Rebecca Adlington in 2013. Her latest feat cements her status as one of the greatest swimmers of all time, holding four world records across both long and short courses in the 800m and 1500m freestyle events.
Ledecky has been in exceptional form recently, demonstrating her dominance with her second-fastest 400m freestyle time in nine years and the second-fastest 1500m freestyle time in history, both achieved in the same week.
Meanwhile, her compatriot Gretchen Walsh also made headlines by breaking her own 100m butterfly world record with a time of 55.09 seconds. Walsh, 22, currently holds an impressive nine world records, including five individual and four relay events.
Both Ledecky and Walsh are now setting their sights on the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, where they aim to add to their already impressive medal collections. The competition is scheduled to take place from July 11 to August 3, promising thrilling performances from these two swimming titans.
