Jersey swimmer Filip Nowacki sets new European junior records and secures multiple medals at the European Junior Swimming Championships, showcasing his potential for the 2028 Olympics.

Filip Nowacki, a 17-year-old swimmer from Jersey, has made headlines at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Slovakia by winning two gold medals and one silver. His performance in the 200m breaststroke was particularly remarkable, as he broke the European junior record twice. Initially setting a time of 2:09.11 in the semi-final, he further improved it to 2:08.32 in the final, surpassing the previous record by 1.32 seconds. This achievement also ranks as the fifth-fastest time ever recorded by a British swimmer in this event.
Nowacki’s success continued in the 100m breaststroke, where he clinched the gold medal with a time of 59.59 seconds, outpacing Greece’s Evangelos Efraim Ntoumas by 0.59 seconds. Earlier in the competition, he secured a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke, further cementing his status as one of the most promising young swimmers in Europe.
These medals add to Nowacki’s growing collection as he sets his sights on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. His recent achievements include breaking the British age-group record for 16-year-olds in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke in 2024, as well as winning a silver medal at the European Junior Championships in the longer distance. His journey to the top began in 2023, when he became the first Jersey sportsperson to win three medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, followed by a silver medal at the European Youth Olympics.
Nowacki’s dedication and talent have earned him a place in the Team GB world-class swimming squad, and his performances at the European Junior Swimming Championships are a testament to his potential for future success on the international stage.
