Jenson Button is setting his sights on victory in the 2025 World Endurance Championship (WEC) as he prepares to kick off his second season with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota. The 2009 Formula One world champion will begin his campaign at the Qatar 1812km this Friday, driving in the top hypercar class. This year marks a significant shift for the team, which has transitioned from Porsche engines to a new partnership with Cadillac.

Button shared his aspirations during an interview with BBC Radio Somerset: "Jota has won a race every year it's competed in WEC, so that's pretty impressive. I think we need to continue that trend. Every driver will say they want to win Le Mans, and that's top of the bucket list. But for now, I just want to win a race."

The British driver emphasized the challenges of competing in such a high-caliber series, highlighting the talent among drivers, manufacturers, and teams. "When you stand on the podium, knowing the competition you've faced, it's a remarkable achievement," he added. "That has to be the aim, and there's no reason why we can't achieve it."

Button’s 2024 season was a mixed bag, finishing 19th in the drivers' championship with a best result of 6th at the Six Hours of Fuji. Despite missing a preseason practice session due to bronchitis, he quickly adapted to the new Cadillac V-Series R hypercar. "I’ve got to grips reasonably quickly with the car," he said. "Being part of a manufacturer’s team gives us an edge. The openness and adjustability make it easier to address issues and find comfort in the car."

The 45-year-old also reflected on the complexities of modern racing systems, noting that last year's learning curve was steep. "It’s not just about setting up the car and driving it," he explained. "Understanding the tools and systems is crucial. This year, it’s been much easier to make progress."

With a strong team, a competitive car, and a clear goal, Button is optimistic about his chances in the 2025 WEC season. Fans will be watching closely to see if he can secure that elusive race win and potentially climb the ranks to challenge for the 24 Hours of Le Mans crown.
