France Welcomes Jalibert and Penaud as They Gear Up to Face England

France adjusts their lineup for the Six Nations clash against England, bringing back key players Jalibert and Penaud.

France’s Strategic Lineup Changes for the Six Nations

As the much-anticipated Six Nations match approaches, France has made strategic changes to their lineup. Fly-half Matthieu Jalibert has been recalled to replace the suspended Romain Ntamack. Jalibert's last Test start was back in February 2024, but he has the chance to shine again as he takes the helm against England at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham this Saturday, February 8.

Ntamack's absence is a result of a red card received for a head tackle on Wales' Ben Thomas, which occurred during France's impressive 43-0 victory over Wales on the tournament's opening weekend. Despite the setback of losing their star player, coach Fabien Galthie remains confident in Jalibert's abilities, emphasizing the need for players who can articulate their desires on the field. "We need Matthieu Jalibert," Galthie stated, reinforcing his trust in the young fly-half's capacity to lead the team.

Returning to the squad as well is Damian Penaud, who brings an impressive record of 36 tries in 53 appearances for France. His return from a toe injury positions him just two tries shy of entering the elite ranks of Serge Blanco, France's all-time leading try-scorer. Penaud is expected to bolster the wing position, thereby adding significant attacking prowess to the French side.

In contrast, Theo Attissogbe, who scored twice in the recent victory over Wales, will not feature in this match, marking a tactical shift in the team's approach. The remainder of France's matchday squad remains intact, with captain Antoine Dupont orchestrating plays from the scrum-half position.

Among the replacements, we have Emilien Gailleton, a Croydon native, showcasing an interesting narrative thread as he returns to play close to his roots.

As France gears up for what promises to be an intense encounter, the focus will not only be on their returning stars but also on their resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges. With a solid blend of experience and youthful energy, France is set to make a bold statement in this Six Nations clash.

France’s lineup:

  • Backs: Ramos; Penaud, Barassi, Moefana, Bielle-Biarrey; Jalibert, Dupont (capt)
  • Forwards: Gros, Mauvaka, Atonio, Roumat, Meafou, Cros, Boudehent, Alldritt
  • Replacements: Marchand, Baille, Colombe, Auradou, Guillard, Jegou, Le Garrec, Gailleton

As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on the rugby pitch on Saturday for what promises to be an exhilarating display of skill and strategy.
