The club was also anticipating the return of Bukayo Saka, who is still recovering from a hamstring issue.

In the lead-up to Arsenal's EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle, Arteta emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline in recruitment. "We had a clear intention, which is to explore opportunities to enhance our squad when the window opens. However, with various injuries impacting our lineup, we have been unable to achieve this," said Arteta. He acknowledged the disappointment but stressed the necessity of only bringing in players who fit the club's vision.

According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, the challenging market conditions contributed to Arsenal's lack of activity. The ongoing extensions of both the Champions League and Europa League made other clubs hesitant to sell key players.

Looking ahead, Arteta indicated that the Gunners will need to adopt a flexible approach in their attacking strategy to navigate the current injury woes.

Furthermore, three players departed from the squad during the window; defenders Ayden Heaven and Josh Robinson moved to Manchester United and Wigan Athletic respectively, while Brazilian attacker Marquinhos was loaned out to Cruzeiro for the remainder of the season.
