Hamzah Sheeraz Dominates Berlanga, Stevenson Defends WBC Title in New York Showdown
Hamzah Sheeraz triumphs over Edgar Berlanga in a super middleweight bout, while Shakur Stevenson retains his WBC lightweight title in a thrilling night of boxing in New York.

In a night of high-stakes boxing at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York, British fighter Hamzah Sheeraz made a spectacular statement in his super middleweight debut, delivering a fifth-round stoppage victory over Edgar Berlanga. Sheeraz, 26, showcased his power by knocking Berlanga down twice in the fourth round and once more in the fifth, forcing the referee to call an end to the fight. This victory extends Sheeraz's unbeaten record to 22-0, with 18 wins coming inside the distance.
Sheeraz's performance was nothing short of dominant, marking his first fight since a draw against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames in February. After the draw, Sheeraz decided to move up to super middleweight, and his victory over Berlanga has set the stage for a potential clash with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Sheeraz expressed his eagerness for the challenge, stating, "It would be an honour to share the ring with him; it genuinely would. One thing I can guarantee is if I do ever share the ring with Canelo, it's not going to be the case of what happened in his last fight where his opponent was trying to run. Even if I get knocked out, I'll stand there and trade with him."
In the co-main event, Shakur Stevenson successfully defended his WBC lightweight title with a unanimous decision victory over William Zepeda. Stevenson, 28, controlled the fight from start to finish, with two judges scoring the bout 118-110 and a third scoring it 119-109. This victory improves Stevenson's unbeaten record to 24-0, with 11 knockouts. For Zepeda, 29, this marked his first career defeat, bringing his record to 33-1.
The event, held at the iconic Louis Armstrong Stadium, was a testament to the growing popularity of boxing, drawing in fans from around the world. With Sheeraz and Stevenson both delivering standout performances, the boxing world is eagerly anticipating their next moves.
