Chris Gotterup Clinches Scottish Open Victory Over Rory McIlroy in Thrilling Finish
Chris Gotterup triumphs at the Scottish Open, defeating Rory McIlroy in a nail-biting final round to claim his second PGA Tour title.

American golfer Chris Gotterup secured a monumental victory at the Scottish Open, outlasting Rory McIlroy and a competitive field to claim the biggest win of his career. The world number 158 showcased remarkable composure, carding a final-round 66 to finish at 15 under par, two shots clear of McIlroy and England's Marco Penge, who shared second place.
Gotterup, who started the final round tied with McIlroy, displayed nerves of steel on the back nine, where McIlroy's challenge began to falter. The 25-year-old's triumph not only earned him a £1.2 million prize but also secured his second PGA Tour title and a coveted spot in The Open at Royal Portrush next week.
Reflecting on his victory, an emotional Gotterup said, "I just hung in there tight and tried to keep it together. It's amazing. It's all hitting me. I played really well this week, and I knew today was going to be tough. I hung in there like a champ and finished it off in style."
Matt Fitzpatrick and Nicolai Hojgaard finished three shots behind Gotterup, while Justin Rose posted the lowest round of the day with a bogey-free 63 to finish one further back. Xander Schauffele, defending his Claret Jug title, ended the tournament on nine under alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg.
Dane Nicolai Hojgaard and Germany's Matti Schmid earned the remaining two Open places available for non-exempt players. This victory marks a significant milestone in Gotterup's career, solidifying his place among golf's rising stars.
