Olivier Giroud Makes a Stunning Return to French Football with Lille
France's all-time top scorer Olivier Giroud returns to Ligue 1 with Lille after a stint with LAFC, bringing experience and leadership to the young squad.

Olivier Giroud, France's all-time top scorer, has made a triumphant return to French football by signing a one-year deal with Lille. This move marks Giroud's first appearance in the Ligue 1 in 13 years, following his departure from LAFC.
Giroud, who played his final game for LAFC on 30 June, expressed his excitement about returning to his home country. "I'm very happy and excited to be back in France, home," said Giroud. "It made perfect sense to return to Ligue 1, 13 years after leaving it. I've always considered Lille a top French club."
With a career spanning several top European clubs, Giroud brings a wealth of experience to Lille's young and talented squad. "It's a young and talented squad, which needs experienced players like me. So I'll also be there in that role," he added.
Giroud's illustrious career includes six seasons with Arsenal, where he scored 105 goals and helped the club win the FA Cup three times. His move to Chelsea further solidified his reputation, contributing to their FA Cup, Europa League, and Champions League victories.
After helping AC Milan win the Scudetto in 2022, Giroud joined LAFC but struggled to make a significant impact, scoring only five goals in 37 games. Despite this, his international record remains unparalleled, with 57 goals in 137 appearances for France, including a pivotal role in their 2018 World Cup triumph.
Giroud's return to Ligue 1 is a significant boost for Lille as they aim to compete at the highest level in French football. His leadership and experience will be invaluable as the club looks to build on its recent successes.
