England U21s Ready to Conquer Euro 2025 Final Pressure, Says Cresswell

Charlie Cresswell expresses confidence in England U21s handling the pressure in the Euro 2025 final against Germany.

Defender Charlie Cresswell has expressed his confidence in the England Under-21s squad to handle the pressure of the Euro 2025 final and end a 59-year trophy drought. The Toulouse centre-back, who already has one European title under his belt from two years ago, believes the team has the resilience and belief to overcome any challenges.

The Road to the Final

The Young Lions secured their spot in the final after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in Bratislava. They now face Germany in what promises to be a thrilling showdown. Cresswell, who scored in England's opening 3-1 win over the Czech Republic, is no stranger to the pressures of international football.

Handling the Pressure

"The seniors have done a great job, but playing for England is not easy," said the 22-year-old. "People think England are going to steamroll most countries, but there's a pressure that comes with it. It's about how you handle that pressure individually and collectively. Everyone's different."

Cresswell emphasized the importance of focusing on their own game, stating, "We've got belief in this team and a resilience I don't think anyone else in the tournament has. We believe in ourselves, and I'm sure we'll get the job done."

A Personal Journey

Having grown up watching the national team struggle in major tournaments, Cresswell is determined to help erase those painful memories. "I was brought up with England always a massive part of my childhood," he recalled. "I'd go to the local pub and watch the first team with all my mates and my dad's mates. It was a big deal."

He added, "For me, every time I pull on an England shirt, it feels like an honour—a huge honour. I'm immensely proud that I get to do this. To go out there and give my everything is the least I can do."

The Final Challenge

With Harvey Elliott being the only other member of the title-winning squad from two years ago, Cresswell's experience and leadership will be crucial. The team's focus now is on preparing for the final against Germany, where they aim to bring home the trophy and make history.
