Wales and Northern Ireland Advance to World Cup of Darts Semi-Finals

Wales and Northern Ireland have both advanced to the semi-finals of the World Cup of Darts following their quarter-final victories on Sunday in Frankfurt.

The Welsh duo of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, who are aiming to win the competition for a third time, showcased their dominance with a three-dart average of 99.66 in their 8-4 victory over Hong Kong. Price, a former PDC world champion, reflected on their performance, stating, "We were consistent all the way through, they put us under some decent pressure at stages. We weren't at our ultimate best there but we improved from the last game. Every game we go through, we'll improve again and whatever anyone throws at us, we'll throw a little bit more back."

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland's Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney secured their place in the semi-finals with an 8-5 win over the Republic of Ireland. The match was tightly contested, with the Republic of Ireland leading 5-4 before Rock and Gurney rallied to win four consecutive legs. Gurney, a former World Grand Prix winner, praised their opponents, saying, "It was a fantastic game and a great advert for Irish darts. Big credit to Keane and Willie - it takes four to make a great game."

In the semi-finals, Wales will face the Netherlands, while Northern Ireland will take on Germany. The Netherlands, led by Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen, have been in formidable form, having not lost a leg in their first three matches. On the other hand, Germany, who caused a major upset by defeating pre-tournament favorites England in the last 16, continued their impressive run by edging out 2022 champions Australia in a thrilling deciding leg.

The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the World Cup of Darts, with both semi-finals and the final to be played on Sunday evening.
