Sam Kerr's Anticipated Return: A Boost for Chelsea's Treble Ambitions

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor remains hopeful for Sam Kerr's return this season, potentially boosting their treble ambitions.

Chelsea's star striker, Sam Kerr, may make a crucial return to the pitch before the season concludes, according to manager Sonia Bompastor. Kerr, who has been sidelined for over a year due to a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2024, is intensively working towards her comeback.

Bompastor's Optimism Bompastor expressed her hope but acknowledged the challenges in pinpointing an exact return date. "She's working really hard," Bompastor stated. "All the performance staff are doing everything for her to play this season. We'll see how it goes. We know we only have a few games left now."

Impact on Chelsea's Season With just four games remaining in the Women's Super League and the FA Cup final against Manchester United on 18 May, Kerr's return could be pivotal. Chelsea, recently ousted from the Champions League by Barcelona, are focusing on securing a treble—comprising the WSL title, FA Cup, and League Cup.

Strategic Focus Following a disheartening 8-2 aggregate loss to Barcelona, Bompastor emphasized resilience. "The best teams need to bounce back," she remarked. Chelsea is six points clear of Arsenal in the WSL and could clinch their sixth consecutive title with a win against Manchester United, provided Arsenal falters against Aston Villa.

Looking Ahead Bompastor remains confident and motivated. "I'm still really confident going into this game on Wednesday," she said. "I think if we have the opportunity to win on Wednesday it will be a big step for the title."
