Rublev and Safin: A Promising Tennis Partnership for the Clay Court Season

Explore the new coaching partnership between Andrey Rublev and tennis legend Marat Safin as they tackle the clay court season together.

Andrey Rublev is optimistic about his new coaching collaboration with Marat Safin, hoping it extends beyond the current clay court season. The world number nine has joined forces with the former world number one, who is celebrated for his victories at the US Open in 2000 and the Australian Open in 2005.

Rublev, known for his emotional outbursts on the court, looks to Safin for guidance in managing his mental health and temper. Safin, infamous for his fiery temper and racquet-smashing episodes, brings a wealth of experience and understanding to the partnership.

Their first challenge together will be at the Monte Carlo Masters, where Rublev is set to face Gael Monfils. This tournament marks a significant step in their partnership, with Rublev expressing his admiration and eagerness to learn from Safin.

Rublev shared his thoughts on the collaboration, stating, "Marat is someone that inspired me since I was a kid. I'm just trying to listen and to try new things. We'll see how it will work, or what it will bring, or what's going to happen."

He also humorously noted the potential challenges of their partnership, "I hope for a really long partnership, but it depends if he enjoys working with me or if he will suffer. Because if he feels I'm not listening, I don't think he will waste his time."

This partnership could be pivotal for Rublev, who has yet to win a Grand Slam, as he continues to seek breakthroughs in his career with the guidance of a seasoned champion like Safin.
