The opening day of the Grand National Meeting at Aintree delivered high drama as Lossiemouth, ridden by Paul Townend, claimed a thrilling victory in the Aintree Hurdle after the heavily favored Constitution Hill suffered another unexpected fall.

Constitution Hill's Struggles Continue

Trained by Nicky Henderson, Constitution Hill had been the overwhelming favorite but followed up his Cheltenham Champion Hurdle disappointment with another mishap at Aintree. Jockey Nico de Boinville appeared to have the horse in contention, but a mistimed jump saw the star hurdler crash out, leaving the race wide open.

Lossiemouth's Dominant Display

With the field opening up, Lossiemouth (owned by Rich and Susannah Ricci) surged ahead under Townend's expert guidance, securing a 2¾-length win over Wodhooh. This victory reinforced the mare’s credentials after her December defeat to Constitution Hill at Kempton.
