Lewis Hamilton Embraces New Chapter at Ferrari with Confidence and Determination

Lewis Hamilton discusses his transition to Ferrari, his mindset, and goals for the 2025 F1 season, starting with the Australian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton is embarking on a new chapter in his legendary Formula 1 career as he joins Ferrari for the 2025 season. The seven-time world champion, who left Mercedes after 12 successful years, is set to make his Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix. Despite the high expectations, Hamilton remains unfazed by external pressures.

A New Challenge, A New Mindset

Hamilton, now 40, has been a dominant force in F1, securing six of his seven titles with Mercedes between 2014 and 2020. However, the past few seasons have seen him claim only two race victories. Speaking in Melbourne ahead of the season opener, Hamilton expressed his excitement and determination for this new phase.

"I am under no assumptions it will be easy," Hamilton said. "I don't feel the pressure. The outside pressure is non-existent for me. The pressure is from within and what I want to achieve."

Focus on Team Success

Hamilton emphasized that his move to Ferrari is not about proving anything to anyone but rather about contributing to the team's success. He acknowledged Ferrari's storied history and the team's hunger for victory.

"They are so driven and maybe they have not had as much success as they would like and deserve," he said. "I just want to work towards and contribute to doing it."

Adapting to a New Environment

Transitioning from Mercedes to Ferrari comes with its own set of challenges. Hamilton admitted that he is still adapting to the new car and team dynamics.

"I am still learning this new car, which is quite a lot different to what I have driven all through my career," he explained. "Ferrari power, after all my career with Mercedes, is a different feel, different vibration."

Building Relationships and Trust

Hamilton highlighted the importance of building relationships and trust within the team. "The sooner you can perform to a higher level, the better, but inevitably there is a transition period," he said. "Respect is given but trust is something built over time."

Competition and Ambitions

With Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes all looking strong this season, Hamilton anticipates a closely contested championship. He remains focused on performing at his best and helping Ferrari achieve their goals.

"I have had some not-so-spectacular years and I am trying to make sure I have a better one," he said. "But there will be lots of factors go into that."

Teaming Up with Leclerc

Hamilton also spoke highly of his new teammate, Charles Leclerc, praising his work ethic and dedication. "He is very much Mr Ferrari," Hamilton said. "It has been really cool to work alongside him."

Leclerc, who joined Ferrari in 2019, has been a consistent performer for the team. He dismissed the notion of being labeled as 'Mr Ferrari,' emphasizing the team's collective spirit.

"Ferrari is bigger than any drivers, and that has always been the case," Leclerc said. "Lewis is coming as a legend of the sport, so there is a lot more attention on him than me at the moment, but I am completely fine with it."

Looking Ahead

As Hamilton begins this new chapter, he remains focused on his ultimate goal: winning a record eighth world title. For Leclerc, the ambition is equally clear.

"This is my one and only target, goal, and dream that remains to be ticked," Leclerc said. "It's only about being a world champion. That's my obsession."
