Egan Bernal Suffers Collarbone Fracture in Clasica Jaen Crash: A Setback for the Cycling Star

Former Tour de France winner Egan Bernal sustains a collarbone fracture during the Clasica Jaen race, marking a challenging start to his season.

Egan Bernal's Injury at Clasica Jaen

Former Tour de France champion Egan Bernal faced a significant setback during the Clasica Jaen-Paraiso Interior in Spain, where he suffered a collarbone fracture in a crash. The incident occurred in the closing stages of the race, which was ultimately won by Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski.

Bernal’s Road to Recovery

Bernal, who is 28 years old and rides for Ineos Grenadiers, expressed mixed emotions after the crash. "I was feeling really strong and obviously I'm sad to have crashed, but the way I felt during the race gave me a lot of confidence and motivation to keep working hard," he said. Despite the injury, Bernal remains optimistic about the long season ahead and hopes to return to racing soon.

This injury comes just 11 days after Bernal secured a victory at the national individual time-trial championships in Colombia, marking his first win since a life-threatening crash in 2022. That incident left him with severe injuries, including damage to his spine, legs, knees, and chest, requiring multiple surgeries and extensive recovery.

Ineos Grenadiers' Response

Ineos Grenadiers, Bernal's team, has not yet provided a specific timeline for his return. However, they have emphasized their support for his recovery process. The team is focused on ensuring Bernal can return to peak form when he is ready.

Looking Ahead

Bernal’s resilience and determination have been evident throughout his career. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to his goals. The cycling world will be eagerly watching his recovery and comeback, as he continues to inspire with his unwavering spirit.
