Villarreal Condemns Attack on Disabled Fans: A Dark Day for Football

Villarreal strongly condemns the attack on two disabled supporters after a La Liga match, emphasizing the need to eradicate violence in football.

In a shocking incident that has marred the spirit of sportsmanship, Spanish club Villarreal has condemned the attack on two disabled supporters outside the Estadio de la Ceramica following Saturday's La Liga match against Valencia. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the aftermath was anything but peaceful.

One of the victims is a player for Villarreal's EDI team, a squad dedicated to players with intellectual disabilities. The supporter spent the night under medical observation for contusions. The other supporter suffered a complete maxillofacial fracture and was rushed to Castellon General Hospital, where they remained as of Monday morning.

"Villarreal CF would like to reiterate the club's absolute condemnation and utmost repudiation of any act of violence in any form, which has no place in football and society," the club stated. They also expressed their support for the victims, maintaining constant contact and collaboration since the incident.

Valencia also issued a statement condemning the attacks, emphasizing that football should be a haven free from hatred. "Stadiums should be a place free of hatred, and the club condemns these acts that do not represent the fundamental values of sport or the healthy coexistence and respect between fans that was evident throughout the match," they said.

This incident has sparked a broader conversation about safety and respect in football stadiums, particularly for vulnerable groups. Both clubs are calling for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
