Cambridge United has confirmed the exit of head coach Garry Monk after a challenging season that saw the team secure only one win in their last 13 league games. Monk, who previously managed Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday, took over in March following Neil Harris's departure. Despite steering the club to 18th place in League One last season, Monk's efforts this year have been less successful, with the team managing just one point from their first nine games.

Although Cambridge United experienced a brief resurgence with three consecutive wins in October, they have since plummeted to the bottom of the table. Monk's departure comes after a 1-0 loss to Exeter, leaving the team eight points away from safety.

In a statement, Paul Barry, the club's majority owner, expressed gratitude for Monk's dedication and hard work over the past year. He acknowledged Monk's commitment to the club but stated that the current situation necessitated a change. With 15 games left in the season, Cambridge United is determined to fight to retain their League One status.
