British respondents fear the potential for AI to take over tasks completely, and they worry that AI agents could ignore laws and morals while acting on their own. The resistance, in other words, is not to AI as a tool but to AI as a decision-maker — a distinction with real consequences for how agentic products get positioned and sold.
The second objection deserves the closer look. Unease about agents ignoring laws and morals is not a complaint about performance, accuracy or price — the usual friction points in technology adoption. It is an objection to autonomy itself: to systems that act without a person checking whether the action is lawful or right.
