The construction of the allegation is what makes the case unusual. Polymaker is not accused of producing weapon components — it sells PLA filament, which the state itself describes as harmless. The complaint instead argues that the company's outreach to the 3D-printed gun community converts that innocuous consumable into the promotion of a regulated firearm precursor part. The conduct on trial, in other words, is targeting and messaging rather than the material itself. Should that theory hold, it would establish a liability route that runs from a finished, illicit object back up the supply chain to whoever supplied the raw feedstock.
