Lewis Hamilton Praises Oscar Piastri's Path to F1 Championship Glory

Lewis Hamilton commends Oscar Piastri's performance and potential to win his first F1 title, highlighting McLaren's strong season.

Lewis Hamilton, the most successful driver in Formula 1 history, has praised Oscar Piastri for his exceptional performance this season, stating that the young Australian is on the right track to secure his first F1 championship. Hamilton, who won his first of seven titles with McLaren, expressed his admiration for Piastri's achievements with the Woking-based team.

Piastri has won four out of seven races this season, leading his teammate Lando Norris by 13 points as they head into the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton noted the immense pressure both drivers face but emphasized that Piastri has been doing everything necessary to win a world championship.

Piastri's Impressive Season

  • Wins: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, and China
  • Pole Position: Imola (though he missed out on victory)
  • Current Standings: Leading teammate Lando Norris by 13 points

Hamilton, now driving for Ferrari, shared his thoughts on Piastri's performance: "It's amazing to see McLaren doing so well, because that's where I started. And also to see them so close, him and Lando, just these two great drivers." He added, "The pressure on both of them will be unimaginable, I would say, for most people that are not experiencing it or have not experienced it."

Monaco Grand Prix Expectations

The Monaco Grand Prix holds special significance for Australian drivers, with three having previously won there: Jack Brabham, Mark Webber, and Daniel Ricciardo. Piastri expressed his desire to add another chapter to this history: "There's quite a lot of Australian history around this place. It would be nice to add another chapter."

Piastri also reflected on the challenges of the season, particularly after the Imola race where Red Bull's Max Verstappen overtook him for the win. "I think maybe the [Red Bull] race pace was a bit of a surprise for us but the fact they were quick through the weekend was not a big surprise," he said. "So we've got to keep working hard."

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Piastri to see if he can maintain his lead and clinch his first F1 title, continuing McLaren's strong performance in the 2025 season.
